ABOUT
Queendom of Illusion is the name of the global artistic project led by the French singer-songwriter Justine Mothe. Under «QoI», she delivers a prolific universe of her own, that of an encounter between spoken word and electronica and which will give birth to a powerful and sensual techno-opera. Queendom, from the contraction «Queen» in English and -dom (from the Latin domus which means field) engages the artist as a woman wishing to free herself from any pre-existing space to create her own. Illusion for pure imagination, an ode to the surrealist movement and the «sabotage of reality.
Born in south-west France, Justine Mothe grew up in a world of sport and performance. Her father was a former international rugby player and professional coach. She immersed herself in this competitive environment and adapted it to her dance practice. For fifteen years, she entered regional and national competitions at the CND, then international competitions at Ballet Malandain, winning numerous prizes in the ‘other style’ category. She forged her own choreographic style and co-created variations with her choreographer from the age of 15. It was in this way that she discovered electronic music, which became her specific artistic terrain.
She gave up dance to study journalism and specialised in foresight, fascinated by science and new technologies. She worked for Usbek & Rica - the magazine that explores the future - and then for Arte as a data journalist. Her desire for freedom and self-expression led her to write her first science fiction novel. At the same time, she embarked on a late career as a professional model (New Madison and Marilyn) and immersed herself in the world of fashion, images and photography. A Proust’s madeleine that took her back to her mother, her first photographer.
Her encounters in the creative industry propelled her into a new matrix at the crossroads of all the disciplines explored at the time: writing, dance and image.
She launched the Queendom of Illusion project, which she saw as a global storytelling studio.
